Info from the foreword page:
The River Road, from Baton Rouge along the Mississippi River to New Orleans, is a section famous for good cooking, which is so much a part of our heritage and tradition here in Louisiana. Our culinary history is old. Influenced principally by the French and Spanish, it is Creole Cooking. And it is truly Southern!
The French enhanced their own outstanding cuisine with the great abundance found in Louisiana – the herbs, seafood, game, meat, vegetables and fruits. The Spanish added zest and the old Negro mammy a touch of magic with her knowledge and use of herbs.
South Louisianians today are proud of this heritage – cooking that is truly an art. Delightful creations such as gumbos and crayfish bisque, courtbouillons and jambalayas, shrimp Creole, hushpuppies, pralines and just a good cup of coffee – these are all distinctly ours to share. To a glorious past and a gourmet future we dedicate "River Road Recipes."
When I purchased this book at an estate sale, there were about 20-30 misc pieces of papers inside. Looks like most are additional recipes, some from box tops, some hand written, some from magazines. I'll leave those inside and they will be mailed with the book. I don't know how many recipes are in this book, but a nice thing is that there are names of the person who donated the recipes for printing.
The book 262 pages and although I didn't check to see if every page is there, I fanned through it and didn't see any evidence of pages being torn out. There is however, no front cover. The back cover is here and it has a few nicks. The book looks well used, and I'm sure I would have loved to taste some of these dishes. The original copyright is 1959 and this is the 23rd printing from 1970.
Please note that Alaska and Hawaii buyers will have different delivery charges than what is quoted below. Delivery will be via USPS Media Mail. Depending on the distance from California, delivery could take up to 2 weeks. Buyer to pay delivery charges of $4.00. Insurance is suggested. Seller will not be liable for uninsured items.
An explanation regarding COMBINED SHIPPING charges:
I do combine additional purchases to save my customers on shipping charges. When more than one item is purchased, I begin with the item with the highest quoted rate and add onto it. At checkout, you will notice that it shows the same price for additional items as it does for the original item. That second price is not correct, but until I can figure out the program, I have to show it that way. Any items after the first one will be discounted and the invoice will be corrected and resent. If you'd like a quote on additional items, email me which items and I'd be happy to give you an accurate quote.
All items in my listings come from either garage or estate sales. I do not know if they came from homes where smoking or pets were present. All items are sold in the same condition as when I received them.
