Availability: 1 In Stock

This is a hard back book with the original dust cover. It is copyright 1943. There are 304 pages, with a little yellowing starting to set in. The dust jacket has a couple of tears, but the book is in great condition. The book still has the original $3 price on the inside cover. There are sketches with many of the stories.

From the inside dust cover flap:

"For six months Ernie Pyle, roving Scripps-Howard correspondent, wrote news columns about the war in Tunisia which were increasingly recognized as one of the greatest pieces of reporting in American journalism. Toward the end of the campaign they were running on the front pages of countless newspapers. Americans discovered in them a new feeling about the war, a human warmth, an unstereotyped approach – in other words, exactly what they were most interested in – not grand strategy but how the boys were making out. These columns--in full-length form in which they were originally filed, form the basis for a wonderfully moving story of soldiers throughout the entire campaign, for embarkation from England through ultimate victory.  'Here is your war' is great reporting indeed, but more than that it is a look of timeless and permanent excellence".

Ernie Pyle died while covering the action in WWII.

All items in my listings come from either garage or estate sales. I do not know if they came from homes where smoking or pets were present. All items are sold in the same condition as when I received them.

An explanation regarding COMBINED SHIPPING charges:

I do combine additional purchases to save my customers on shipping charges. When more than one item is purchased, I begin with the item with the highest quoted rate and add onto it. At checkout, you will notice that it shows the same price for additional items as it does for the original item. That second price is not correct, but that's how this program does it, so I have to show it that way. Any items after the first one will be discounted and the invoice will be corrected and resent. If you'd like a quote on additional items, email me which items and I'd be happy to give you an accurate quote.
